William Edwards Obituary

William N. Edwards

William N. Edwards (Bill) was born Feb 3, 1941 in Seattle, Washington and passed away at Swedish Hospital August 4, 2013, at age 72 surrounded by close friends. Bill was many things but those of note were that he was a keen archer, collector, artist, a huge boxing enthusiast and lover of old Westerns. He also loved to travel, and did often with his wife of thirty years, Loretta Edwards. Bill was a graduate of Queen Anne High School (1959) after which he spent a few years in the US Army. Bill had been retired for several years, but he spent much of his life working in the family business at Mt Pleasant Cemetery on Queen Anne Hill. Bill had a wonderful sense of humor; he always loved a good laugh and had the kindest of hearts and he made people smile wherever he went. He was a much-loved son; husband, brother, uncle and a dear friend to many.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Loretta M. Edwards, his parents, Neil and Geneva Edwards, and his sister Burma Lawrence. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Tom Lawrence and his nephews, Robert Lawrence (Cindy), Neil Lawrence and Ward Lawrence (Julie).

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 700 West Raye St., Seattle, Washington 98119. A reception will follow at Ponti's Restaurant, 3014 3rd Avenue North, Seattle, Washington 98109. Donations in his memory can be made to the Sierra Club.

I remember walking through the cemetery during preparations for our QA Historical Society tours and finding Bill's arrows stuck in the ground. He had a natural outlook on life and death that was refreshing. We'll miss the Edwards very much.

I really enjoyed working with Bill at the cemetery. He and I had fun times, watching western movies, talking about knives, eating at Palisades Restaurant, and learning of history together. Bill and I had an understanding about life which we shared.
