William Munson Obituary

William Edward Munson

William Edward Munson passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, July 20, 2012. He was surrounded by loved ones.

William was born April 3, 1924 in Stanwood, Wa to Wildur and Clara Munson. He was a graduate of Tolt H.S. class of 1942. He attended the Tolt Congregational Church, was active in Boy Scouts and played football in High School on a 6 man team. He went on to the Univ of Washington but left to join the Army during WWII, serving in France and Germany. He crossed the Rhine River on his 21st Birthday. He was awarded the Bronze Star and received a Purple Heart.

Returning home, he married Esther Rutledge of Snoqualmie, Wa in Feb 1948 and raised daughters Sally (Adelsperger) and Rebecca (Whitman). They spent a lot of time on the water in the family boat, salmon fishing and exploring Puget Sound. Bill and Esther were married 51 years when Esther passed away.

In 2001 William married Rosemary Willard Coverdale, adding Garrison (Merilee) Coverdale, Carol (Dean) Francis, Ginny (Tom) Clark, John (Teri) Coverdale to his family.

William was a gregarious, generous, thoughtful husband, father and friend. He was "mister fix-it" for all. He spent most of his working life in the lumber store business. He worked for Braman Lumber Co in Lake City early on then bought the Frank Lumber Store with his partner John Sims and they operated that business until he retired.

After retiring Bill and Esther traveled the US in their motor-home, and enjoyed activities around their home on Hoods Canal. He was a past president of the Twanoh Falls Beach Club and a long time member of the Gypsy Roamers RV Club. They spent winters in Yuma, Arizona.

William is survived by his wife Rosemary, daughters Sally (Ron) Adelsperger & Rebecca (Sheldon) Whitman, grandchildren: Pat (Janet) McDonald, Vicky (Carl) Martin, Jeff (Shelley) McDonald, Holly Cash (Dave Sanders), Sylvia Kammerer, Grant (Alison) Whitman, Tiffany Whitman, and a number of great grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by all.

A Memorial service will be held at the Mt Si Lutheran Church at 411 NE 8th St, in North Bend, Wa at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 4, 2012. In lieu of flowers, any donations should be made to the Disabled American Veterans, or Mt Si Helping Hand Food Bank.

Willie did a super job as "activity coordinator" on one of our "Couples for Christ" campouts at Ocean Shores several years ago. He brought newspaper, string and balsa wood and had everyone making kites. It was great fun to have a kite flying contest...an activity many of us had enjoyed as young children. I also recall him teaching all of us to play "Polish Poker" around the campfire. He and Rosemary were such a fun addition to the group. Those of us at Mt. Si Lutheran will miss his willingness to be involved in so many activities.
My sincerest condolences to Rosemary and all of Willie's family.

Our deepest condolences to the Munson extended family. William will continue to leave his imprint through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many more generations to come. We are proud to know his granddaughter, Tiffany Whitman, who is engaged to be married to our son, Daniel, and to welcome her and the Munson legacy into our family.

With sympathy,
the Jorge Otero Family
