Alice Kathryn Chipman Shoemaker
SEDALIA — Alice Kathryn Chipman Shoemaker passed away quietly on April 9, 2014 surrounded by family in Sedalia, MO.
She was born in 1921 in Corvallis, Oregon, the second daughter of James Joseph and Marietta Boyce Chipman. Childhood years were spent in Oregon, Ironton, Ohio, and Edinburgh and San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio and attended Stephens College, Columbia, MO. Her family returned to Missouri in 1941 after her father's retirement from the JC Penney Co. and settled in Sedalia, where she worked for a time at Third National Bank prior to her marriage.
She met Sedalian Jack Howard Shoemaker in Sedalia, and married in 1947 at the home of her parents. After a short time in St. Louis, where their first child, Sally Louise, was born in 1951, they returned to Sedalia to be nearer both parents and they remained in Sedalia where she was a mother and homemaker. A second child was born in 1953, James Chipman. Mrs. Shoemaker was a member of Sorosis, Chapter LQ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the Wesley United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters Josephine Boyce Chipman and Marjory Scott, and her husband.
She is survived by her children, Jim of Sedalia and Sally Armstrong of Carthage, MO, and their spouses Lisa Solomon Shoemaker and Daniel Edward Armstrong. She loved dearly and enjoyed five granddaughters, Whitney Katharyn Shoemaker Luckenbill of Carmel, Indiana, Alice Chipman Armstrong Habel of Springfield, Regan Elizabeth Shoemaker Rockenfield of Liberty, their spouses Brett Adam Luckenbill, Joshua James Habel and James Robert Rockenfield, and Lucy McHargue Armstrong, New York City and Agatha Louise Armstrong of Huntsville, Alabama. She leaves a niece, Lucy Scott of Dallas, Texas, and five great-grandchildren, Ava Kathryn and Jack Thomas Luckenbill, Charles Gordon Habel, and Henry James and Peter Chipman Rockenfield.
Interment was attended by the family on April 12, 2014 at the Laurel Oak Cemetery in Windsor with Dr. Richard Adams officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.

Alice was a sweetheart. I've enjoyed knowing her for many many years. She was a favorite patient of ours at Dr. Katemann's office, where I worked. I am the red head. After that in our retirement years, my husband and I enjoyed our many visits at Wal Mart where she gave us "sweet marriage advice" after being married many years.
