Dr. Dean Allen Dohrman

Dr. Dean Allen Dohrman, 64, of La Monte, MO, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at E.W. Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sedalia. Born on June 2, 1959, in Warrensburg, MO, he was the son of the late Floyd Henry Dohrman and Opal Maurine (Lynde) Dohrman.
Dean's life was a journey marked by dedication and service. His early years were spent in farming and cattle raising during high school through the 1980s. Dean commenced his academic pursuits at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, continued at CMSU in Warrensburg, and achieved his PhD at UMKC. Selected for the Presidential Management Program, he served five years at the Department of Agriculture in Kansas City. As an Economics instructor at CMSU and various colleges, Dean imparted knowledge in economics and history. He also supervised online courses for Colorado State University.
From 2005 to 2012, Dean served as the Pettis County Assessor, demonstrating his commitment to public service. Elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2013, he dedicated eight years to the people of Missouri. Notably, Dean chaired the higher education committee and played a vital role in Military Affairs, focusing on Whiteman Air Force Base and Ft. Leonard Wood. His legislative accomplishments included the establishment of the military office of advocates and the "Boots to Business" bill, providing low-interest loans for veterans.
Dean's involvement extended to community leadership, serving as Treasurer of the 4th Congressional District for eight years. Locally, he organized and hosted the McKinley Day and Freedom Rally, elevating Pettis County to fourth place in the state. An avid author, Dean penned "Insidious Changes" and was a proud member of Pachyderm, T.A.R.G.E.T, and the Sedalia Lions Club. He received numerous awards for his contributions and served on various boards.
A passionate advocate for veterans, Dean coordinated Honor Flights to Washington D.C. for World War II veterans and championed the establishment of "Old Drum" as the State dog. He cherished his family, loved traveling, enjoyed sports, and found joy in serving his community and the state.
Dean is survived by his sister, Kathryn Gerling of Sedalia; step-daughter, Laura Burlingame, and her husband Tyler, of La Monte; grandson, Brooks Allen, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Rea Funeral Chapel, with Mark Mohler officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. at Rea Funeral Chapel, 3510 W. 16th St. Sedalia.
Dean will be laid to rest at La Monte Cemetery, La Monte, MO. Pallbearers include Mark Dohrman, Jim Kernell, Robert Lynde, Todd Lynde, William Lynde, and Jeff McClasky.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Missouri State Veterans Home, Warrensburg, MO, in care of Rea Funeral Chapel. Dean's legacy of service and dedication will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
