Loy H. Smith

GREEN RIDGE — Loy H. Smith, 101, of Green Ridge, Missouri, died January 16, 2015, at the Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Mo.

He was born November 7, 1913, in Johnson County, near Windsor, Mo., the son of Ovid Harris Smith and Annie Ruth (Egbert) Smith. In March, 1936, at Green Ridge, Mo., he married Cleo L. Wadleigh and she preceded him in death on December 10, 1979. He later married Thelma Dirk and they were married for 27 years before the marriage ended.

Mr. Smith was a farmer, raising cattle and growing row crops. He was a member of the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, and was a member and past Nobel Grand of the Green Ridge I.O.O.F. Lodge and a past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the state of Missouri.

Survivors include two sons, J.L. Smith, Blue Springs, Mo.; Errol Smith, Roseville, Minnesota; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Eldon Smith, Herman Smith, and Gerald Smith; a sister, Ethel Smith; and a niece and nephew.

Graveside services were 12:00 noon, Monday, January 19, 2015, at the Green Ridge Cemetery, Green Ridge, Mo., with Pastors Randy & Dianna Marcum officiating. The family received friends from 10 - 11:00 a.m., at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, followed by an IOOF Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Sam was a great inspiration to me as a young man and I loved his humor and perspective on life. He was a true inspiration to all that knew him.
