Roger Cook Obituary
Roger William Cook, 74, of Callahan, Florida, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 13, 2025 at his home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Chapel in Sedalia. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 9:30 A.M. at the church. There will be no visitation prior to the funeral. Instead, all family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Knights of Columbus Hall following Mass and burial at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart School Foundation or K9s for Warriors in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
Born in Independence, Missouri, on February 6, 1951, to Emmet and Regina Cook, Roger spent most of his life in Sedalia, where he built a life defined by hard work, strong values, and deep faith. He served on the Sedalia Park Board, worked for decades in the natural gas industry, and always made time for the people who mattered most.
Roger and Julie married in Sedalia and together they shared 42 years of marriage, two children, a couple of cross-country moves, but never the tv remote. After their kids were grown, they moved to Denver, then relocated to Florida in 2013 after the birth of their twin granddaughters. Wherever his family was, that's where Roger wanted to be.
His was a life well lived. Roger was usually the loudest in the room, and you always knew where he stood. He was steadfastly dependable and showed his love through action-by showing up, fixing what was broken, always answering his daughter's tearful calls when she was in crisis, and never missing a moment that mattered. He had a dry sense of humor, a deep appreciation for a good nap and old westerns, an answer to any problem you might have, and a heart that only grew larger when he became "Grumpa" to his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; his children, Damian (Edie) Cook of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Diana Cook of Tallahassee, Florida; five grandchildren who lit up his world: Emma (Dan), Lainey, Olivia, and twins Sawyer and Sloane; three siblings, Joyce (Keith) Woolery of Sedalia and Darrel (Beth) Cook and Vernon (Shawna) Cook, both of Kansas City; one mini donkey named Alonzo who was the bane of his existence, and "a dog named Boo."
Many things will be missed in Roger's absence, but his legacy will live on through his well-timed one-liners that will be repeated for generations to come, "5-minute projects," his perfected pancake and biscuit recipes, and naps taken in his honor. He will be missed more than words can say.
In honor of Roger, take a nap, put on an episode of Bonanza, listen to your favorite '60's rock, or do something helpful for someone you love-just like he always did.
