Dennis Smith Obituary
BOWLING GREEN -- Dennis Ray Smith was born in Bowling Green, Ohio on March 28, 1951. He was one of two children born from the union of Charles Smith and Margene (McGill) Smith.
As a man of extraordinary work ethic, Dennis worked persistently throughout his life, until his health declined, demonstrating his great determination. Dennis worked in several different capacities to provide for his family. He was employed at Enterprise Sheet Metal and Roofing Co., as an iron worker, and assisted with dock installations for Fox Marina. He also maintained rental properties for his parents.
Dennis thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and the peaceful serenity of the open water. Later in life he moved to Michigan, making his home in the Lost Peninsula. His new lifestyle practically placed the Ottawa River in his front yard. His love for the open water was unmatched, as he was often seen aboard his cherished 30-foot Lyman boat, cruising the waters and occasionally venturing to Cedar Point with his children. He was also an avid hunter, trekking to the woods of Wisconsin to track deer with his close friends.
Dennis was a past member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He had many dear friends and was known for his congeniality towards everyone. He strived to provide steadiness and calmness. A proud member of The Sports Club, his energy and treasured friendship were shared by all. Above anything, his two sons were the pride and joy of his life.
Dennis R. Smith, age 74, of Erie, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday; September 11, 2025. His passing was preceded by his parents.
To cherish his memory, he leaves two sons: Neal Smith and Ryan Smith; a sister: Linda (Howard) Gray; his companion: Laurie Sondergeld; and two grandchildren: Hazel Smith and Lucie Smith.
Friends may gather for a graveside service at 11:00am on Friday; September 26, 2025, at Wood County Memory Gardens; 15360 Liberty Hi Road; Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Erie; 9156 Summit Street, Erie, Michigan 48133 (734) 317-7199.
