CUSTAR -- Elizabeth S. Strow, 89 of Custar, Ohio died Thursday morning, November 30, 2023 at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, Ohio.
She was born August 17, 1934 in Medina County, Ohio to the late Byron and Ada (Harris) Sprang.
Elizabeth was a 1952 graduate of North High School in Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Education in 1956. After graduating, she married Robert A. Strow of Custar, Ohio in June of 1956 and they shared over 43 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in May of 1999.
While her late husband was serving in the military, Elizabeth taught school in Virginia. They returned home to Custar where she was a substitute teacher for several NW Ohio schools from 1959-1969. After four children, Elizabeth went to work at Deshler Elementary for Patrick Henry Local Schools as a 4th grade teacher. She remained in Deshler until her retirement in 1999 and then spent several years after retiring as a substitute when needed.
As a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Weston and Greenwood Chapter; she served as Worthy Matron and held several offices. Elizabeth served as the District 6 Deputy Grand Matron of the Ohio Order of the Eastern Star in 1994. She was the Assistant Director and tutor for the Toledo Masonic Dyslexia Learning Center; a past 4-H Advisor and member of the Women in Ag Committee, Wood County. She was a faithful member of the Weston United Methodist Church.
She was a loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and loved to sew and bake. To others she will be remembered as Mrs. Strow, the teacher. She was a devoted teacher and educator. She always made herself available as a tutor throughout her career and even after retirement. She always supported her students and her school. She remained a big fan of Patrick Henry Schools and The Ohio State Buckeyes.
She is survived by her children, Richard K. (Luanne) Strow; Linda E. Strow; Peggy M. Strow; Robert J. (Angela) Strow; 7 grandchildren, Shannon Strow; Lauren Strow; Morrison Nolan; Rosa Bowen; Lilianne Bowen; Henry Strow; Luke Strow; sister-in-law, Carol Gonyer; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Nolan and her twin siblings, Richard Martin and Ruby Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Weston United Methodist Church, Weston, Ohio with Rev. Charles Case officiating. Burial will follow in Milton Township Cemetery, Custar.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler with an Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation at the church will also be 9-11 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2023 prior to the services.
The family suggests memorials to Weston United Methodist Church, Weston Library or the Deshler Edwin Wood Memorial Library.
