BLOOMDALE -- Leonard "Red" Chapman, age 87, of Bloomdale, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in North Baltimore, Ohio, in 1937 to Rosie and Ruth Chapman, Red grew up with a strong sense of community and family. He was one of four siblings: Norm Chapman (surviving), Raymond (Elaine) Chapman, and Beatrice Orians (both deceased).
Red proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for two years and dedicated over five decades to the Bloomdale Fire Department, including 45 years as Fire Chief. His leadership, commitment, and service left a lasting impression on the town he loved so dearly.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Chapman of Bloomdale, and their children: Russ (Cindy) Chapman of Bloomdale, Jeff (Missy) Chapman of Powell, and Amy (Dan) Sheldrick of Bowling Green. Red was a proud grandfather to: Brandon (Kayla) Chapman of Van Buren, Kayla (Eric) Lozier of Delaware, Kristi (Chad) Weaver of Powell, Michael (Alyssa) Chapman of Marysville, Abbi (Bryan) Warner of North Olmsted, and Jake Sheldrick of Camarillo, CA. He also leaves behind a cherished legacy through his great-grandchildren: Zander, Adelynn, Samuel, Aria, Willow, Evie, Quinnie, Lucy, and Elowynn.
Red will be remembered for his infectious smile, unwavering humor, and unconditional love for his family. His legacy of service, strength, and joy will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
All services will be private. Burial will be in Weaver Cemetery, Bloom Township.
Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Crates Funeral Home, North Baltimore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wood County Humane Society in his honor.
