BOWLING GREEN -- It is with profound sadness that we must announce Martha Ann Wright-Moon passed away peacefully last Sunday, June 22, 2025 at the age of 87. Martha was in assisted living for the past 1.5 years, but had been an active member of the Bowling Green community for over 55 years previous to this. She is survived by older brother William Giffen Jr (wife Jan), of Hudson, Ohio and other family described below.
Martha was born on July 7, 1937, in Akron, Ohio. While attending Akron Kenmore HS, Martha developed a talent for baton twirling and became a majorette - a passion that continued during her college career at the University of Akron. While at Akron majoring in English, she was named May Queen of 1958 and met Richard Wright.
In March 1959, Martha and Rick married in Akron, Ohio where they later had their first two children: Cate (1960) and Rick Jr (1962). After Rick Sr. received his Phd at Kent State in 1968, the family moved to Bowling Green, Ohio where Martha delivered their third child, Elizabeth Ann, in March of 1970. Rick Sr. worked as a History Professor and later as a Director / administrator at BGSU until his death in 1986.
In 1996, Martha Wright remarried widower Fred Moon, a longtime Bowling Green businessman and WWII veteran. Martha and Fred happily resided at Larchwood Landing while occasionally returning to Fred's childhood hometown of Keokuk, Iowa until Fred's passing in 2018.
During Martha's life in Bowling Green, she was a member of several churches (Peace Lutheran, Plain Congregational, and First United Methodist Church) and enjoyed participating in the church choir and bell choir. She also served for decades as a 'Meals on Wheels' volunteer and as precinct judge on election days.
In addition to her brother, Martha is survived by her daughter Cate (husband Mark) Borzi, who resides in Valdosta, GA, son Rick Jr (wife Beth) who resides in Plano, TX and son-in-law Gil (wife Jen) Pulliam, who reside in Lebanon, OH. At the time of her passing, she enjoyed an extended family inclusive of 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

I had the privilege of knowing Martha Ann Wright-Moon during my years at BGSU. She welcomed me into her life as family and became my American Mother. Her compassion, generosity, and wisdom left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She gave freely of her love, guidance, and warmth, always putting others before herself. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her soul be surrounded by comfort. My heartfelt condolences to her family; may the memories of her love bring you strength and peace.
