Erna Shafer Obituary

Erna Kay (Northon) Shafer, 71, of Ionia, passed away on Nov. 15, 2013, in Ionia.

Erna Kay was born in Clare, Mich., to George Burton and Helen Leona (Snell) Northon on Feb. 25, 1942. She married Ronald C. Shafer on July 25, 1964, in Clare.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Ronald Shafer of Ionia; children, Burton (Suzette) Shafer of Fresno, Calif., Katrina (Wil) Lampman of Greenville, Shelby Shafer of Ionia, and Amanda (Tony) Lupo of Sand Springs, Okla.; siblings, Virginia (Jerry) Hamming of Clare and B.J. (RuthAnn) Northon of Evart; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen Northon, as well as her beloved Siamese cat, Hobo.

In accordance with her wishes, there will not be a memorial or graveside service. Arrangements are entrusted to Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Interment will be at Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare, Mich., at a later date.

The family of Erna Kay wish to extend their sincere appreciation to Ionia Area Hospice.
