James Richard "Jim" Price, Jr, 78, passed into eternal life in Heaven, Saturday, September 4, 2021, in LaGrange, Kentucky.
He was a husband of 58 years, father of three sons, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He was "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, "Priceless" to his church family, "Mr. P" to his students, and "Mr. President" to many. He was a man of God and a friend to everyone he met. He lived his life based on one of the songs he sang, "I Want to Live All He Died for Me to Be". Jim sang in many churches in Shelby and surrounding counties, sharing his love for Christ. He was often the last one to leave because he loved talking to people.
Jim was in the last graduating class of Simpsonville High School. After graduating from Morehead University, he began his career at IBM as a systems analyst/computer programmer. Later, the love of the farm and independence brought him back to his family farm where he enjoyed dairy farming for many years. In the 1980s, Jim became a rural mail carrier from which he retired in 2012. He also purchased Ken-Tex BBQ Restaurant in Shelbyville which is managed by his son, Ryan.
Jim and Lynn have been members of Living Waters Church for the past 37 years. Jim served on the board, sang on the worship team for 20 years, and taught. Another activity he enjoyed was teaching and tutoring the children at Father's Love, a ministry of their church.
For the past 20 years, Jim and Lynn have taken the fourth-grade class and their parents from Cornerstone Christian Academy on an overnight history tour of Kentucky which would end in hiking Cumberland Gap. They also hosted countless field trips and "Indian days" on the farm. In the last few years Jim found great joy in substitute teaching at Cornerstone. The kids loved him and called him "Mr. P".
Jim's love for travel and family history took him and Lynn all over the south researching his Price and Clarke family lines and her Choctaw and Cherokee heritage.
The family is so appreciative of the unbelievably compassionate care Jim received from the staff at Baptist Health LaGrange. We are thankful he was in that facility so we could have some contact with him in his final days here on earth. We know we will see him again in Heaven
Preceding Jim in passing were his parents, James Richard and Marjorie Doyle Price. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Murta Price; his sons Rob Price (Candice Franklin) of Stanford, Kentucky; Rick Price (Jodie) and Ryan Price (Heather) both of Shelbyville; his grandchildren, Brady Price (Ella); David Price, Julia Price, Ashley Bruner, Faith McDowell, Jordan McDowell, Victoria Leigh Price Hoofman (Hayden), Jade Nicole Price, Kayla Paige Price, Kingston Levi Price; his great-grandchildren, Alexis Bruner, Kayla Bruner, Mollie Bruner, Riley Hall, Dominic Price, Rylann Hoofman, Joleen Hoofman; and his sister, Judy Price Stout, her husband, Charles, and their children, Richard Stout of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Allyson Stout Haymond (Adam) of Shelbyville.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville, Kentucky. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Living Waters Church on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. A private family ceremony and burial were in the Price Family Cemetery on the family farm.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy should be made directly to Cornerstone Christian Academy or to Father's Love, both of Shelbyville, Kentucky in honor of Jim (Mr. P.) Price.
