William Rhame Nelson, age 95, of Louisville passed away on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at his home.
He was a member of Christ Community Church in Wheaton, Ill. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from College of Charleston, he attended and received his master's from Southern Baptist Seminary, continuing his education he received his PHD from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N. J. He served as minister of Clinton Avenue Baptist Church in Trenton, N. J. and Lake Avenue Baptist Church in Rochester, N. Y. He served as executive director of American Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, Wis. and was a professor at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Burk Nelson; his parents, Warren Rufus and Alise Rhame Nelson; his brothers, Edward Warren Nelson and Thomas Rhame Nelson; and his sister, Mary Frances Nelson.
He is survived by his children, William Nelson (Cissy) of Richmond, Ill., Deborah Homan (Steven) of Louisville, David Nelson (Sandy) of Carol Stream, Ill.; his grandchildren, Jessica Nelson, Andi Maza (Andrew), Alexis Tranum (Joseph), Korey Nau, Kyle Nau (Lisa), Heidi Ranganathan (T.J.), Amy Lima (Gio) and John Nelson; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Waddy. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. until time of the service.
