James Hodges Obituary

James "Jim" Hodges

November 13, 1943 - July 2, 2022

South San Francisco, CA

Jim passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022. He was surrounded by love until the very end. Jim was born in San Francisco, CA to Alvin Udell "Jim" and Marie Hodges. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Sheila Shea Hodges, his devoted daughter Heather Merkouris (Billy), his loving son Rusty Hodges (Christen) and his grandsons who were the "lights of his life" Nickolas and Alexander Merkouris. Jim was close to his younger siblings Ed Hodges (deceased), Elizabeth Barry (John, d.), Frank Hodges (Lucy) and his cousin John Dillis (Larry). He also leaves behind many brother and sister in-laws, along with nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents Jim and Marie and his dear in-laws Bill and Eileen Shea.

Jim held numerous jobs throughout his life. He retired after 43 years with the City & County of San Francisco as Assistant Director of the DPT. He was well respected and after retirement went on to work part time as a Hearing Officer with the DPT.

He maintained long-lasting friendships throughout his life. Once you met Jim you knew he was a "keeper". He enjoyed watching most sports on TV, especially his 49ers. He loved a good golf game, traveling and spending time with his family and friends, with his grandsons being at the top of that list. He looked forward to his monthly get together with his "SF Old Timers Baseball Association" and of course his Saturday "date night" with Sheila. He was a music lover and enjoyed getting on the dance floor whenever he had the chance.

Jim was a very wise man who was loved and admired by all who had the opportunity to know him. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in each of us.

Services will be held on Friday, July 15th at St. Robert's Church, 1380 Crystal Springs Road in San Bruno at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jim's name to the following organizations:
