A. Safine Obituary

A. Jordan Safine
March 2, 1940 - May 8, 2022
A. Jordan Safine passed away on May 8, 2022 in Walnut Creek, California.
The only child of Frieda and Aaron Safine, Jordan was born on March 2, 1940 in San Bruno, California. Over 82 years, Jordan's life would become his legacy of fun, service, caring for family and friends, and community building.
Jordan grew up in San Francisco and graduated from Lincoln High School. He attended City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in recreation administration. He was a loyal fan of the Giants, 49ers and Warriors.
Jordan served in the Coast Guard and then joined the Peace Corps, spending two years in Indonesia.
In 1966, Jordan married Elizabeth (Betsy) Nickman. They had two sons, Kevin and Brian. Jordan enthusiastically shared "dad jokes" and supported every activity the boys pursued. Jordan and Betsy enjoyed 24 years of marriage then remained friends.
For 25 years, Jordan managed the Strawberry Canyon Recreation Area at the University of California Berkeley, and in the 1980s, Jordan operated the popular Redwood Shadows Sports Camp each summer in Santa Cruz. In 1991, Jordan retired from Cal and became a Realtor.
In 1992, Jordan married Dawn Chappell, a Peace Corps alum. Jordan and Dawn had daughter Claire and son Collin. Once again, Jordan eagerly shared his jokes and supported school and sports activities. Jordan and Dawn celebrated their 30-year anniversary in January.
Jordan was thrilled when grandsons Aidan, Kieran and Eli were born. Jordan's sense of humor lives on in the grandsons he loved dearly.
Jordan embraced every opportunity to make friends, whom he counted as family. He was also lucky enough to have many cousins, with whom he was very close.
When it was time to settle up, Jordan cashed out a winner. The family and friends he leaves behind are much richer for being a part of his life.

We were so sad to hear about Jordan“s passing.
He was our realtor first and then became a dear friend.
Our hearts go out to Dawn and his family.
