Alexander Karst Obituary

Alexander Karst
02/20/1935 - 09/10/2025
Judge Alexander Karst, 90, of Berkeley, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025.
Born in Kolonia-Horyszów, Poland, on February 20, 1935, he immigrated to the United States in 1950 after surviving wartime displacement. A gifted student, he graduated magna cum laude from Santa Clara University before earning his law degree at UC Berkeley. He served as a JAG lawyer in the U.S. Marine Corps and later worked for the Department of Justice. In 1977, he was appointed a federal administrative law judge, a position he held until retiring in 2007.
In 1969, he married Daisy Anne Jackson, with whom he shared 39 years until her passing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and generosity.
He is survived by his children Paul (Aimee) and Kathryn (ex-spouse David Mason); and grandchildren Jazmine, Madelyn, Amelia, Anastasia, and William.
