Alfred V. Sanguinetti

Alfred Valente Sanguinetti resident of Portola Valley beloved father, grandfather, companion, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on November 6. Alfred or "Al" was preceded in death by his father Antonio Sanguinetti, his mother Assunta Ghiozzi, his brother John Sanguinetti, and sister Gloria Harlow. Loving father of Angelica Michela and son in law Barney, Anthony Sanguinetti and daughter in law Christine, Stephen Sanguinetti, and daughter in law Heather; Cherished Grandfather of Michael Michela, Matthew Michela, Anthony Sanguinetti, Morgan Sanguinetti, Michael Sanguinetti, Saundra Sanguinetti, Audrey Sanguinetti, and Anna Sanguinetti. Adored Godfather, Uncle and Great Uncle to nieces, nephews, godsons, and goddaughters.
Al was born in San Francisco, California on November 20th, 1928. He was a graduate of Galileo High School in San Francisco lettering in Varsity Football as an offensive tackle. At the age of seventeen, Al began his career with Levi Strauss, starting in the shipping department. He later served in the Army in the Korean War as a Sargent in logistical supplies and received an honorable discharge. Taking advantage of the GI Bill, Al attended Golden Gate University night school, earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in Business Administration. His career at Levi's would become legendary, lasting for 36 years where he rose to President of all domestic operations; when it came to Jeanswear, industry professionals considered him the most knowledgeable individual in the entire world.
A Bay Area resident for his entire life, Al was a true Renaissance man in every sense of the word. A student of history, he spoke four languages and celebrated life with enthusiasm, enjoying the culinary arts, mushroom hunting, travel, and the opera, seeing Luciano Pavarotti perform at the New York Met multiple times. Most importantly and known by all his friends, Al had a tireless passion for viticulture. He frequently visited numerous famous wineries throughout the Napa Valley, absorbing all the knowledge available. Al was able to live out his winemaking dream in Portola Valley, devoting hours to the trade in his personal wine cellar and cherished vineyard, perfecting this craft to the level of any professional in the trade.
Details on a memorial service are to follow. The family plans to have a private burial.
