The matriarch of the Torres family of San Francisco's Noe Valley, Amy passed away peacefully at Sterling Courts in San Mateo, where she resided for the past four years after moving out of her beloved San Francisco. Amy spent her last Thanksgiving surrounded by family, and was thrilled to have all three of her great-grandchildren together for the first time.
Amy is survived by her sons Robert (Peggy) and Richard (Cheri), and her grandchildren Nicholas (Casey), April (John), Tyson (Ivy), Trevor (Megan), Amber, Jason and Casey (Justine) and her great-grandchildren Miles, Ryu and Benjamin. Amy is also survived by her siblings Delfina (Del), Herminio (Toots), and Elizabeth (Bella).
Amy survived her late husband John (Jack) Bruce, her parents Maurilio and Genoveva Torres, and her siblings Esperanza (Hope), Maurilio (Mike), Dolores (Lolly), Donaciano (Chano), Rosemary (Rosie) and Rebecca (Becky).
Amy lived a full life and was beloved by friends and family alike. While raising her sons in South San Francisco, Amy assisted her husband Jack in running Bruce Electronics in San Bruno, and then embarked on a second career with the county of San Mateo as a fraud investigator. Upon retiring, Amy moved back to San Francisco and became actively involved with Saint Paul's Church in Noe Valley, where she had grown up years earlier.
People who met Amy in her later years were always shocked when they learned of her age. She was sharp as a tack right until the end, and never stopped keeping up with the latest news and never stopped reading her mystery novels.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, December 12, at 11:00 am at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City.
