Ann Johnson Obituary

Ann Edmiston Johnson
11/12/1940 - 12/23/2025
Ann Johnson of Inverness, CA passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on November 23, 2025. Born in San Francisco on November 12, 1940 to Evelyn Murray Edmiston and Joe Reynolds Edmiston, Ann enjoyed growing up in the City. She attended Katherine Delmar Burke School and the University of California at Berkeley, both schools of which were near and dear to her heart throughout her lifetime.
After graduating as a Kappa Alpha Theta and History Major at Cal, she worked as an accounting administrator at Itel Corporation, where she met the love of her life, Doug Johnson. Ann was a regular docent at the De Young Fine Arts Museum and served as Chair of the Burke's Alumni Board. Later in life, she took pride in her commitment to the Scholarship Committee of the Inverness Garden Club, as well as her involvement on the Board of the Margoes Foundation.
Ann had an intellectual and a sporty side to her personality. She loved watching the stock market and appreciated the camaraderie and inspiration she found through her Fort Knocks Investment Club which was composed of like-minded women. She also loved tennis and the social aspect of the game. Ann joined the California Tennis Club in SF as a Junior member at age fifteen and cherished her 70 years of membership. The love for tennis was a common thread for Ann and Doug as they both became very involved as players and volunteers for the Inverness Tennis Club.
After 60 years of city life, Ann thoroughly enjoyed the community that she and Doug built together in Inverness. She loved tending bar with Doug at the Inverness Yacht Club, organizing social events, and serving as a member of the Youth Sailing Committee. Ann also loved gardening, hiking, bicycling, traveling, and the SF Giants. She was always up for an adventure and will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, dignified lady.
Preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Doug Johnson, Ann is survived by her daughter, Holly Ann Williamson, son-in-law, Yale Williamson, and granddaughter, Sage Williamson. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring in Inverness. For those who wish to honor her memory, donations can be made to the West Marin Scholarship Program or to the IYC Youth Sailing Program.

Beloved Aunt Ann. Always kind, supportive, loving, and generous to me and extended family. Fond memories of family picnics, holidays, and playing golf with her when I was young. I always treasured visiting her at home in the City -- and later, in Inverness. A true San Francisco native, she was a terrific SF Giants fan and Cal booster. A wonderful aunt, mother and grandmother with a terrific spirit and intellect. I will miss her dearly.

Ann, a lovely reflection of her late parents, was a cherished friend of many of us. Of the many activities we enjoyed together in our twenties, weekend afternoons at Candlestick were of enduring delight. My condolences to her family.

Boy does this bring back very old memories! Ann and I dated in High School.
I went to Lick Wilmerding and and many of my friends went to Town School
and that is how I met girls from Burkes and Hamlins. I went to the University
of Arizona and we never reconnected. I never forgot that Red Headed girl.
