ANTHONY SEBASTIAN OBITUARY

Anthony Sebastian

Doctor Anthony Sebastian said his final goodbyes on October 12, 2018 at UCSF Medical Center after courageously battling a chronic illness of 58 years. Anthony was brought into the world on July 11, 1938 by Madeline and Vincent Sebastian in Youngstown, Ohio. They and his brothers, Peter and Johnny, later moved to Los Angeles where he attended Mt. Carmel High School. Anthony completed his undergraduate degree at UCLA in chemistry then proceeded to pursue a Doctorate of Medicine at UCSF Medical School where he graduated in 1965. Specializing in Nephrology, he became a research fellow and advanced to join the staff at UCSF as a professor of medicine. He authored not only textbooks, but numerous research papers in various scientific fields; Anthony's final paper was published this month. He was awarded the Belding H. Scribner Medal for Lifetime Achievement in 2003 by the American Society of Nephrology along with many other awards. Anthony will not only be missed for his countless scientific advancements, but for the love and warmth that touched all that knew him. He was a man who truly listened and cared for everyone in his life. Anthony will live forever in the heart of his wife of 54 years, Patricia Sebastian, whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his brother John Sebastian, his niece and nephew Kristy and Anthony Sebastian, sister-in-law Sue Sebastian, his cousins Lisa Passin, Jean Porter, Lola Flores, along with many more. With someone who has touched so many lives through his brilliance, warmth, and inspirational courage, he will not be soon forgotten. The memorial service will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 12-4pm at Millberry Student Union, 500 Parnassus. All additional information can found at www.forevermissed.com/anthony-sebastian.

Dear Pat,
I just heard from Joan Schweiger about Tony's death last fall. Every time I remember him, and you, I smile. You enriched the life of this then-young girl from Texas and I will always be grateful.
Warm regards,
