Arlene Elizabeth Tidyman Passed away at her home on July 14, 2012 with her children by her side. Arlene was born October 26, 1934 in San Francisco, CA and lived in her "City by the Bay "until 1989, when she and her beloved husband Mel moved to Rohnert Park to be closer to their grandchildren. The only child of German immigrants, she and Mel lived close to them in San Francisco while raising their children and lovingly cared for her parents in their later years. Arlene carried on her family's traditions, including making large German meals for family get-togethers and baking Christmas cookies every year for her friends and family, a tradition that she shared and has passed on to her granddaughter Teresa. In 1953, at the age of 18, Arlene married the "love of her life" Melvin Tidyman whom she met at a church service while he was in the Navy. They spent the next 51 years together, raising a family and helping each other in everything they did. Arlene always helped Mel with his work for the San Francisco Unified School District and on her own, rebuilt the libraries at Wm McKinley and West Portal Lutheran Schools in San Francisco. After retirement, they spent many wonderful hours together volunteering at St Dominic's School and later at St Joseph's Church in Cotati. Mel passed away in 2005 and now she has gone on to be reunited with him. She is survived by her daughter Arlene Houston (Marc Houston), her son William Tidyman (Kate Rauen Tidyman), her 5 grandchildren Jonathan (Tanya), Joseph (Melissa), William (Lisa) and Teresa Morato, and Marcus Houston, along with 3 great-grandsons, Bradley, Frankie and Benjamin Morato. "For love lavished without measure, for happy hours always to treasure, for wealth of memories beyond all reason, for bounteous meals at holiday season. For quality of life example imparts, we love our mom with all our hearts." The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 (11:00 am) at the Pleasant Hills Chapel in Sebastopol, 1700 Pleasant Hill Road.
