Audrey Hart Etienne

All American Swimmer dies in 100th year 1916 - 2016

Audrey Hart Etienne (1916-2016) was an All American Swimmer who started swimming with the Master Marlins at age 65 under coaches Ray Taft and Ray Laughlin. She holds several world records! Lala is remembered as being joyful, fun and inspirational with a wonderful and generous spirit.
Audrey learned to swim at 13 and dive at 15. She was the first female cheerleader at Burlingame High School (1933). As a P.E major at UC Berkeley (1938), she enjoyed diving and was in Alpha Omicron Pi.
In 1940, she married fellow Cal Alum, Wendell Max Fiedler, who died in WWII (1943). In 1947, she married Jacques P. Etienne (deceased 1985) and together they started Associated Valve & Engineering Co. (AVECO) in San Francisco until they retired in 1970.
Audrey loved her family and friends and will be remembered for her love of dogs, chocolates, & men (you guess what order). She was well loved and will be missed!
Predeceased by her parents, Leo & Veda Hart and brother, Alden Hart (BHS, 1942 & Stanford, 1946). She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Etienne Pettee (m. Jim), grandson Paul Tappan (m. Sonja), great-grand children, Forrest, Nikki, Kees, and Tyee, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dear Gayle. You and I grew up together ever so long ago and I was sorry to note that your mother has died. But reading the obituary did bring back great memories of San Mateo Park and girls playing together. My mother died a couple of months ago too. I hope you are well. My best to you and your family.
