Dear Paul, Ande and Ben,

I am shocked and deeply, deeply saddened to learn of Barb´s passing and while I cannot adequately express my heartfelt condolences, please know that I hold you all in my heart, thoughts, and prayers.

I have read (and reread) this beautifully written tribute to her. It truly captures her essence, her life, and her accomplishments.

Barbara led with her heart with an abundance of goodwill and good cheer. Her humor legendary and her laughter contagious. I will always be grateful for her friendship and yours and for the good times shared.

With love and sympathy,
Robin

Barb and I were in the first grade and the teacher had to tell us to stop giggling. That was the beginning of a life long friendship and we never stopped laughing. Miss you my friend!

I met Barb 58 years ago when we were both in nursing school in Kansas City. Our professional careers began about the same time that the Women´s Movement was gaining traction. Never backing down from challenging the norm, promoting a worthy cause or addressing a social justice issue, Barb joined in bringing me and others along with her. Our vision for our lives began to expand.
Relocating to San Francisco in 1972, we were in the 1974 nurse´s strike that resulted in a giant leap for the nursing profession and health care overall. Maureen, Ramona, Barb, and I have remained fast friends while expanding our social circles and following our own paths. Having witnessed each other´s ups and downs throughout our adult lives and being there for all of the important moments we consider ourselves as sisters.
Many have written about her wonderful sense of humor. In my worst moments, Barb could make me laugh, gain perspective and carry on. I will miss you dear friend. You were one of a kind.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barbara had a great sense of humor. We would spend hours immersed in conversation, and I can still hear her wonderful laugh. Barbara was an innovator and a great contributor to programs at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. She was also a huge supporter of the UCSF/Soka Japan nursing exchange program. She was someone who fought fiercely for her ideals. Her heart was pure, and would never give up.
She was a loyal and generous friend to many. Most of all, Barbara was deeply dedicated to her wonderful family.
Im sorry I just want to respond to all of them! Honestly, Andes relationship with Barb made me laugh and smile all the time. They were so funny together and he adored her so much. The humor in this family is unmatchable and unstoppable. I can´t count on both my hands and feet how many times I laughed at everyone´s antics together. I´m just grateful I got to spend time with you guys and to Barb´s innocent giggles so often. Ande could make Barb laugh so easily, which is so endearing and beautiful.
Barb and I went on a little bonding day in Berkeley. We got tea and walked around. She was so earnest in getting to know me, and we became family. This day was so fun and comforting, and I was so grateful we got to spend quality time.
Barbara was one of the best parts of my week! As a visiting home physical therapist, she often made me feel like I wasn´t at work but that I was among family. She had a huge and welcoming heart with room for all of us and more inside of it. I will cherish her forever
Barbara was a woman of remarkable spirit and heart, kind and compassionate. She always had a way of making other feel loved and valued.
The first time I met Barbara in Puebla, her smile and her light were contagious. She marveled at the history of Mexico and she had an immediate connection with all the people she met.
Barbara we love you.
Barb and Paul let me stay in their guest house in Berkeley for a bit back in the 90s. I remember how much fun Barb was also full of wisdom and she cooked these amazing meals and always offered us a beer or wine to go along with. She was just a cool lady who had a very big smile and made me feel understood and welcome at a time in my life when I really needed that
I never got to know Barbara well personally, but, as one of her niece's closest friends, I heard about her constantly! The love and relationship and memories and time she invested in her loved ones we so impactful. She always sounded like a beautiful, strong matriarch and I can feel her loss without ever having my own close relationship with her. My heart sends love to all that loved and knew her. "Ra Ma Da Sa."
I met Barbara in the summer of 1981 while dating her brother Tom whom I married in 1982. She welcomed me into her close circle of friends and family; we became bonded as "sisters in love."
She helped me with loving support throughout my marriage and we remained friends after my divorce. Once you became a part of her life, she loved you no matter what...
I loved her joyous laughter, great sense of humor and generosity. She loved fiercely and unconditionally. Barbara was a wonderful sister, mother, wife, aunt, and was the glue that held her large extended family together. I've never known anyone as selfless, positive, strong, intelligent, and full of joy as Barbara.
She made me a better mom, wife, teacher, and friend.
I loved her very much and will miss her.
