After 2 years of battling a very rare cancer, Benny Silvestri peacefully passed on October 17, 2021, with his loving family by his side. Benny leaves behind his cherished wife, Marie; his devoted and loving sons Mike and John (Lisa) Silvestri; and his treasured granddaughter Janeen (Neal) Andrighetto. Benny was born in Verbicaro, Italy to parents Biagio and Grazia Silvestri. He was the beloved brother to his twin Sal, and brother Joe and sisters Vincenzina Torrano, Rosaria Sicchio and Frances Daniels and the late Rocco and Rosina. Benny was an adored member of a large, extended family and leaves behind many nephews and nieces.
Benny emigrated to the US along with his father and siblings, Joe, Sal and Rose, ending up in San Francisco in 1956 on the last successful voyage of the Andrea Doria. He grew up in North Beach and in 1962 he embraced the opportunity of the "American Dream" starting a lifelong career at Sunset Scavenger Company. Shortly after, Benny met his beloved wife Marie, and they were married for 59 years.
Benny deeply loved his family; they were his greatest joy and always came first. He had a smile that could light up a room. He had a heart of gold; genuine and generous as they come. Benny lived every day to its fullest and saw the best in everyone. He always listened, knew what to say and when to say it, and could carry a conversation with anyone.
He excelled at all that he did. He was loved by all those who met him and will never be forgotten.
We love Benny and we all miss him deeply.
Friends may visit at 9:30 a.m. with The Funeral Mass at 10a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Saint Pius Catholic Church at 1100 Woodside Road, Redwood City, California, 94061. Burial to follow at the Italian Cemetery at 540 F. Street, Colma, California, 94014.
