Benson Jong Hing Wong, 105 yrs. old, Born Jan. 30, 1916, Taishan, China.
Died Nov. 21, 2021, San Francisco, California.

Born in Taishan, China in 1916. Benson came to America at age of 12 and worked with his brother and father in their restaurant in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a clerk stationed in Germany where he wrote letters home for wounded soldiers. After the war, he returned to China to bring his wife Nancy (Ngok Dep) Lee to San Francisco to raise a family in Chinatown. He became the head chef of the renowned Normandy French Restaurant. His family was one of the first Chinese to live in the Richmond District in the early '60s. He became a real estate agent to help families move out of Chinatown to the Richmond District. He also helped many relatives to immigrate to America and helped to build a school in Taishan. When Nancy died in 2004, Benson returned to China, back to his ancestorial home, to grieve his loss. He met his second wife Juan Zhong Li there. They wed in 2005 and have been happily married for the past 16 years. He died peacefully at home on Nov. 21st, 2021. He will be remembered for his disciplined work ethic, his devotion to family and community, and for his jovial attitude.

Son to Him Tak and Tom Tai Wong. Husband to his first wife Nancy Lee Wong. Father of Lorretta Wong Hui, Jane Wong Kautzer, Judy Wong Loo (deceased), Phyllis Wong (deceased), Arnold Wong, and Ronald Wong. Grandfather to Calvin, Teresa (deceased), Zachariah, Elijah, Caleb, Ezekiel, Naomi, Jasmyn, Crystle, and Clifford. Husband to second wife Juan Zhong Li Wong and stepfather to her children Joe and Daisy. Brother to Richard Y. Wong, Wai Kuen Wong Chan, and Helen Wong Lee (deceased). He is also survived by great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be at McAvoy O'Hara Evergreen Mortuary, 4545 Geary Blvd/10th Ave, San Francisco. 415-668-0077
