Bernice Lassiter Obituary

Bernice Lassiter
10/24/1926 - 12/19/2024
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bernice Lavern Lassiter announces her peaceful passing on December 19th at the age of 98. Bernice, lovingly known as "Bea" to her loved ones and "GG" to her great-grandchildren, was born in Fresno, California, in 1926. In 1945, she graduated from Lincoln High School in San Francisco and volunteered as an auxiliary nurse aide during World War II. After high school, Bernice worked at Pacific Bell as a Telephone Switchboard Operator. Later, she and her husband, Chuck Lassiter, owned Polly Ann Ice Cream on Noriega Street. Following Chuck's passing, Bernice ran an in-home daycare while raising her children and played a key role in helping to establish Grace Infant Care Center in the Sunset District as a devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church. In retirement, Bernice remained active, contributing to numerous volunteer projects within her neighborhood and community. She cherished spending time with family and friends and was fondly known for her love of dancing, earning the nickname "Twinkle Toes" at neighborhood karaoke events.
Above all, Bernice was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her warm and bubbly personality, her boundless energy, and her incredible ability to connect with everyone she met. Her motto, "I Never Know A Stranger," reflected her open heart and genuine kindness. Bernice is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom feel profoundly grateful to have shared their lives with such an extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to your local community organization in her name, honoring Bernice's lifelong dedication to helping others.

I just saw this. My sympathies to the family. I knew Mrs. Lassiter from Polly Anna's and in high school was friends with her daughter Sandy and brother Kirk. She always had a smile for you.

I went to A.P. Gianni Jr high school in 1966 and Bernise used to serve me the Double Marble Chocolate ice cream cone. She called me one of her Boys.
Later years I visited her at her home and we had a great time. She will be missed. She went to Lincoln High school in 1942 and me from 1969 to 1971.

How blessed I was to have met Bernice! It was a true miracle that we crossed paths. I believe the only explanation is God. Although Bernice was my grandfather's first cousin, I had never met Bernice, nor did I know of her. Then one day, after looking over a Manfredo Family tree, God placed Bernice in my life. It was a day I will never forget. She was so joyful, grateful, and beautiful. Her optimism was so inspiring. She told me the secret to a long and happy life is to not take life (or yourself) too seriously. I thank God I had the opportunity to meet her, and know her! Anyone who was lucky enough to love and be loved by her was blessed. Thank you Bernice! I love you and I will always hold you in my heart.

Mrs. Lassiter's home was the hangout for many of us kids (in the 60's) who lived close by and she put up with us....

I knew Bernice through her Neighbor (Michele Fazio Moore,) and the Ice Cream shop. I helped her with a Church set up of a Flea Market many years ago, and I remember her Talking of the Ice Cream shop,I liked her down to Earth Attitude.
