July 5, 1944 - August 2, 2017
Bernie Miller, of Concord, California, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on August 2, 2017. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee and moved to Northern California in 1971. He was a passionate person and expressed himself wholly through art, music, poems and political discourse. He was a self-taught guitar player, a prolific painter, a poet and an accomplished actor. He recently retired from UCSF as Director of the Standardized Patient Program, working with actors and medical students. He is survived by his wife, Susan Miller, daughter Elizabeth Moyle, son Richard Miller, step-daughter Debbie Brubaker, step-sons Shawn Brubaker and Wayne Brubaker, bother Nathan Miller, sister Harriet Samler and numerous grandchildren. While it seems that his flame was extinguished too soon, his light lives on in all of us.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Condolences to Susan, and all the children. I thought of Bernie as a gentle man, with an easy laugh and intelligent personality. He will be missed in the world.
