Beth Rosenthal Obituary

Beth B. Rosenthal
January 15, 1942 - July 8, 2022
After a long, hard fought battle with endometrial cancer, Beth Bondel Rosenthal died peacefully at home on July 8, 2022 at a time and place of her choosing. She was surrounded by her loving husband, children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Peter, her children Jason Rosenthal (Nancy) and Julie Obbard (Ted), her grandchildren Andrew and Olivia Rosenthal and Rachel and Evan Obbard, her sister Leslie Kreithen (Marvin) and her sister-in-law Pat Mann (Larry).
Beth was born on January 15, 1942 in New York City to Gertrude and Joseph Bondel. She attended the New Lincoln School, earned her BA from Brandeis University, a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Santa Clara University and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Palo Alto University.
After completing college in 1962, Beth married her high school love, Peter and started teaching English in several Boston area High Schools. In 1969 they moved to Northern California where they established strong roots and an abiding affinity for the West. Beth established a successful psychotherapy practice in 1984 and practiced until her death. She has resided in Palo Alto for 48 years.
Beth has said that the three most important decisions of her life were to marry Peter, raise her two children and practice psychotherapy. She loved being with her grandchildren at home and on vacation and instituted weekly baking sessions via Zoom during the covid pandemic. She was deeply attached to her patients and was well loved by them for her candid, direct and effective interaction. She was respected by her colleagues and was an active member of the Santa Clara County Psychological Association. She was actively involved in local politics, advocating for more balanced and sustainable growth.
Beth was a devoted, loving, and active mother always engaged in supporting her children in and out of school. She served as Chairman of the Board of Peninsula School and was active in school events particularly focused on developing the humanistic and academic strengths of all children.

I miss Bethie every single day! She was a fabulous friend and I could tell her anything and she would always give me honest answers, at times brutal, but that is why I loved her. She was always honest!

Dear family, just hearing of the passing of Beth, how many years have passed us in our lives. We all began at the New Lincoln School, in NYC, it shaped us to what we are today. The passing of Beth, came at a real surprise. The 57 and 58 class was a close class, my thoughts go out to you and your family, may she rest in peace.
From Georgie / Georgia Randolph class of 57.

Beth always was always gently tactful and exquisitely well composed. She was a wonderful model to her children and grandchildren, always, and right to the end. With appreciation and fond memories.
