Blaine Baesler Obituary

Blaine H. Baesler

Blaine H. Baesler, 94, a long time resident of Nob Hill, San Francisco, California, passed away on January 4, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Baesler, his sister-in-law Rozzalynd Wiebe, son, Derek Baesler of Seattle, daughter Melanie Winchester of Sarasota, Florida, daughter and son-in-law Diana and Bill Gladden of Savannah, Georgia, daughter-in-law Sandy Baesler of Sarasota, Florida, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Boots Baesler of Sarasota, Florida. A graveside memorial service is planned by the family at a later date in his hometown of Lake City, Minnesota.

Blaine was born on December 21, 1920 in Lake City Minnesota to Henry W. Baesler and Bertha M. Brinkman Baesler. He attended Winona State Teachers College before entering the United States Marine Corps in January 1941 and becoming a Fighter Pilot in November 1941. He served WWII tours of duty in Guadalcanal and aboard CVE-107 Escort Aircraft Carrier as Commanding Officer of the Fighter Squadron, through 1945. In July of 1943 he married Melanie Shanks in Sydney, Australia. They had four children. She preceded him in death in 1971 in Australia.

After WWII Blaine began a 46 year career in the flexible packaging business and lived in San Francisco. In 1971 he married Josephine Wiebe. Josephine and her twin sister Rozzalynd have been well known in San Francisco as the owners of Twins Armoire, a fashion boutique at 860 California Street on Nob Hill.

Blaine will be particularly remembered among friends for his sharp wit, and lifelong fascination with airplanes, Mercedes Benz cars, major league baseball, NASCAR, Formula 1 and fishing in Alaska. Blaine had a booming voice, a warm smile and a hearty laugh. He had endless curiosity, asked probing questions and was a lifelong learner. He inspired those around him with his enthusiasm for life and was vibrant and active until the end.

With many friends and family members, Blaine drove across the United States 42 times. Though his best friend, Dr. Ed Liska joined him most often, so also did Jack Horner, Jim Roberto, Vincent Mullins, Ed Zelke, Roland Biancalana, Andy Berkey, Dr. Jolene Kriett and others.

For the wonderful care he received in his last months, the family especially thanks Ann Liska, Dr. Jolene Kriett and Sandy Baesler. In lieu of flowers and remembrances, the family suggests a donation to: The Marines Memorial Club, 609 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 or The Greater Lake City Community Foundation, P.O. Box 86 Lake City, MN 55041.

Dear Family and Friends of Blaine,
Please know that you are in my thoughts, heart and prayers this Easter Season. Special prayers were dedicated to you and your family at an Easter Celebration at the local St. Martin's Catholic Church along the Old San Francisco Rd. and Central -once a waterway for the great Titanic ship.
I made two copies of the published Obituary notice and keep one in my Family Bible and the other copy is prominently displayed on my Memorial Wall of Prayers.
Well, if the Spring Season is here now and March came in like a Lion and went out like a Lamb- let's hope and pray for Eternal Salvation.
God Bless you and yours - Always.

Sincerely Yours In Christ,
Janice Cregan

Josephine, Vic and I are saddened to hear of Blaine's passing. We have so many good memories of his visits with us in Centralia. We'll miss our Mexican dinners at Casa Ramos. He loved to travel and he has now taken the best of journey of all--resting in the arms of Jesus. May God grant you peace and strength in the midst of your grief.

Dear Josephine, Family and Friends, I just happened across this Obituary published in the San Francisco Chronicle that our dear Blaine had an Obituary published with the news that he had finally gone to meet the Lord. I was saddened to read that we may have lost brother Blaine here on Earth- but I try to console myself to know that his Spirit would Rise to meet the Lord above us all.
I went back to the library to make a photocopy of his Obituary, paying great tribute to his life and times here in the Bay Area and our Community. I wanted to always remember the Marines Memorial Club listed for donations and The Greater Lake Community Foundation in Minnesota. It is nice that a guestbook Website is listed so that I might be able to send an e-mail to his survivors.
Please do know that I am saddened at the news of his passing and will always keep copies of his last Obituary in my Holy Bible. His life, mind, works and love of people and this country will always be remembered. Please know that you are in my thoughts, on my mind, in my heart- and Forever in my prayers.
I will pass the word along to the community and to the Church. I am sure he will be honored and remembered in their prayers.

Sincerely Yours In Christ,

Janice M. Cregan

Dear Melanie and Diana & family, I was stunned to read about the passing of your Dad in Sunday's Chronicle. It brought back old memories from Silvermine, Connecticut when your family moved across the street from us around 1960. I remember vividly your Mom & Dad's 'Ozzie & Harriet' fun outlook on life, your bustling household and that sweet '58 lime green (I think) T-Bird. Boots and I were about the same age. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. I hope you have happy memories of Silvermine and the good times we experienced so many years ago. Sincere condolences, Fritz Schautz
