Brian Scully Obituary

Brian Scully
September 28, 1972 - April 9, 2022
Born in New York City to John and Molly Scully, Brian was raised in San Francisco on California Street and educated at St. Vincent De Paul grammar school and St. Ignatius High School ('90). After securing a degree in Political Science at the University of Oregon, where his mom Molly Burke Scully had attended, he returned to San Francisco to work at the Pacific Stock Exchange and later in the tech industry. He loved San Francisco and lived on Potrero Hill for almost 30 years, the last ten with his loving partner Elizabeth Falk. Warm and extremely funny, Brian was beloved by his many friends. He was a devoted father to Colin (Cyndy Comerford), Jack and Maddie (Elizabeth Falk) and stepfather to Ava Hult-Falk. Brian was active in various parenting and coaching circles, including Rooftop School, St. Philip's and St. Brendan's. This season he was still playing baseball with the San Francisco Seals, continuing a 15-year run with his favorite ball club. He was a committed Giants fan as well. Besides baseball, Brian loved tending his garden, progressive politics, funny Halloween costumes, Lake Tahoe, Craigslist art finds, lively campfires, Burning Man, elaborate pranks, urban infrastructure and ghost towns. He knew the Black Rock Desert like the back of his hand. Despite his many interests and projects, he gave so much to his family and friends, including much laughter, easy company, and good humor. Brian is survived by his children Colin, Jack, Maddie, and step-daughter Ava, his partner Elizabeth, her mother Judy, his father John Scully, Colin's mother Cyndy Comerford, his brother Matt Scully and sister-in-law Liecel Tverli-Scully, and their children Theo, Jonathan, and Emily. Brian was taken away from us too soon – he had so much more to give this world. We will all miss him deeply. There will be a Memorial Mass for Brian on Friday May 6 at 11:00am at St. Vincent De Paul Church in San Francisco with coffee and pastries to follow. A memorial celebration will also be held on Potrero Hill on Saturday May 21 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, hold your family and friends close and remind them how much you love them, every day.

God Bless the Scully Family during this difficult time. Brian was a classmate at St. Ignatius. I always enjoyed his humor and quick wit. Brian always made us all laugh. He reminded us about the simple pleasures in this life. Please know that he is our thoughts and prayers.
