Brian William Walsh was born in Oakland on January 27, 1960. He died in Oakland on May 22, 2023, after a sudden and very brief illness.
Brian grew up in Contra Costa County with his parents, Bill and Liz, and his brother John. Brian experienced world travel with his family, including living in Europe for a year. Brian continued traveling several times a year during his life, with his favorite locations being India and Nepal.
Brian graduated from UC Berkeley, Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.A. in English, in 1982. He was a lifelong, avid and constant reader, who amassed a large book collection covering all topics. He also loved all types of music – from Punk to Opera.
Brian graduated from UC California, Hastings College of Law in 1986. After he passed the Bar, Brian left San Francisco for Southern California, hired as a Deputy District Attorney for the Orange County District Attorney's Office, working on criminal cases and trials.
Brian returned to San Francisco in 1987, where he met his wife Stephanie, working at his first civil litigation law firm. Brian and Stephanie married in 1991.
Brian later worked over 20 years as Senior Litigation Attorney, then as a Managing Attorney, for CNA Insurance Company. One of Brian's primary practice areas and expertise was insurance coverage litigation.
Brian enjoyed his Bay Area sports teams, especially the Giants. He was a long-time member of the NY Baseball Giants Nostalgia Society, where he met Willie Mayes at one of the Society's events.
Brian's last morning at home was spent enjoying his usual hike in the hills above his Oakland home, then working from his home office on his cases for Woolls Peer Dollinger & Scher of Los Angeles.
Brian is survived by his wife Stephanie Waluch Walsh, father William (Bill) Walsh, brother John Walsh, nephew Timothy Walsh, aunt Patricia Fithian, cousin Bridget Fithian, cousin Douglas Hansen, his Waluch sisters-in-law and his brothers-in-law, his Walsh relatives on the East Coast, his many friends, and colleagues in the legal community.
A Neptune Sea Scatter service in San Francisco Bay will be held this summer.
