Carole Ann Baccelli, a beloved San Francisco educator, a boundlessly dedicated mother, and a beautifully dilettante artist, has passed away at 84 years old. She is survived by her son and daughter, Scott and Shelly Strebel, and by Scott's partner, daughter-in-law, Ajana Green.
"Ms. B," as she was called-respectfully, fearfully, and lovingly-was a beloved teacher in San Francisco for 39 years. Ortega Elementary and A.P. Giannini Middle School provided grounds for her most thoughtful, progressive, and lasting contributions.
An Italian-American with deep roots in the old country, after retirement, she spent most summers outside of Rome practicing her art, creating beautifully rough charcoal sketches and very fine oil al frescoes. Carole was a staunch individualist who championed anyone brave enough to be themselves. She held many secrets and did things her own way. She walked a righteous path and still readily took into her heart all of us who walk differently. She cared with a fierceness that would resonate to the heavens-and being Italian, she could complain just as much. If Carole was your confidante or friend, or teacher or leader, you will desperately miss her. But you can still hear her reminding you: trust yourself to know what's right for your own heart. You can still hear her saying: you've got this. Take a chance on yourself. She is (true to character) still telling you what to do on her way out the door-including that you should make donations to Little Sisters of The Poor in lieu of sending flowers. Celebrate Carole Baccelli's wonderful life and singular spirit at Duggan's Serra Mortuary on Saturday, January 27th. Visitation at 10 a.m. Service at 11 a.m., 500 Westlake Avenue in Daly City, Calif.
