Charles Bonnici Obituary

Charles Angelo Bonnici
February 14, 1930 - November 21, 2021
Charles Angelo Bonnici was called to the Lord on November 21st, 2021 after a long, hard fought battle with Parkinson's Disease. Dad always kept his sense of humor and always had a golden smile.

Chuck was the beloved husband of the late Beverly Barbey Bonnici, loving dad to Rosalie (Dee) Keb, Linda Williams, Beverly Smith (Michael), and Chuck Bonnici, Jr. (Dottie); the beloved grandfather to Nina, Nicole, Shane, Alix, Chuck III, Josie, Dawn, Alison, and Robert; great grandfather to Jerick, Karina, Genesis, and Aaliyah; great great grandfather to Rosalie.

Chuck was born on Valentine's Day in 1930 to Elia Bonnici and Maddalina Vassalo Bonnici in San Francisco. He was a first generation Maltese American and proud of it! Chuck had two brothers, Joe Bonnici and Leo Bonnici. He is survived by his sister, Pauline Bertolino. His nephews are the late Joe Bonnici, Dan Bonnici (Pat), and Rudy Bertolino, Jr. His nieces are Helen and the late Mary Ann Bertolino.

Chuck grew up in the Portola District of San Francisco. He went to E. R. Taylor Elementary and Portola Junior High. He was a lifelong Teamster in Local 85, driving and lumping for P.M.T. of the Southern Pacific Railroad. When P.M.T. closed, Dad worked a short time in Local 70. Chuck was a hard-working man, like most men of that era, and was able to buy a house for his family in San Francisco. With his hard work, Dad and Mom were also able to buy a little piece of property in Clearlake, California. After retiring, they would split their time between both places.

Chuck was a good natured man, very friendly with plenty of good friends. Dad loved going to his clubs: The Marino Pieretti (Green Jackets), Baseball Old Timers, The Kamloops, Native Sons of the Golden West and a few more. But what he really enjoyed was getting together with his buddies every Thursday at Lake Merced to cook and eat a spectacular lunch. Dad loved to socialize and loved to tell jokes. He always supported his grandchildren at their school and sporting events—he was their #1 fan!

A special thank you to his caretakers, Eleanor and Renee.

Charles Angelo Bonnici enjoyed life to the end. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
