Charles Britt

LUMBERTON — Mr. Charles Wesley Britt Sr., 71, passed away Jan. 20, 2016, at Fayetteville VA Medical Center.

He was born in Robeson County on May 18, 1944, to Colon Allen and Bessie Edwards Britt. He served honorably in the U.S. Army while stationed in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was formerly employed with Scarborough Building Supply for 25 years and with Woodmen of the World Insurance for 10 years. He was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church, serving as deacon and Sunday School teacher for 47 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Chuck Britt.

Charles is survived by his wife, Juanita Coleman Britt of the home; a son, Jeff Britt and wife Leslie and their son, Noah Chuck Britt, all of Lumberton; three brothers, Buddy Britt of Concord, Boyd Allen Britt of Abbottsburg, and Terry Barfield of Concord; and two sisters, Jewell Britt Spence and Coleen Britt Bullock, both of Lumberton.

The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church, the Revs. Mark Meadows and Darrin Wright officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Floyd Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 5089 Old Whiteville Road, Lumberton, N.C., 28358, or to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, Tenn., 37214-0800.
