Christopher Johnson Obituary

Christopher Miles Johnson Beloved son of Dr. Brian and Joan Johnson and brother of Derek and Kaitlin Johnson, was born November 7, 1984 at Stanford Hospital. He lived with his parents in the San Mateo Highlands for three years before moving to Hillsborough, where he lived the rest of his life, other than college. He attended South Elementary School, Crocker Middle School, and Crystal Springs Uplands High School in Hillsborough before heading off to Emory University in Atlanta where he spent two years before taking a hiatus to work for Habitat For Humanity. Last year he transferred to UC Berkeley, where he had just finished his junior year, majoring in economics. Chris was a precocious child, discovering the Audubon Society Field Guides in preschool and reading through all of them by third grade. A lifelong lover of nature, he had plans to visit the Galapagos Islands after graduation, and his last passion was downloading and sharing with us the BBC series on Planet Earth. He also developed an intuitive skill with computers, both software and hardware, and was in demand amongst his family and the local community to fix computer problems and establish wireless networks. He worked multiple summers beginning at age 14 for local technology companies, initially without pay until after a few weeks they determined he was doing work equal to tenured employees, and figured they needed to pay him. Two weeks ago he completely disassembled and reassembled an HP laptop, in order to improve its functioning. Above all, Christopher had a heart of gold, recognized by all. He was universally kind and modest, and merely laughed when total strangers with increasing frequency would tell him that he bore a striking resemblance to Tom Cruise. He deeply loved his family, and all loved him. Saturday, June 9 while on a motorcycle ride through the Santa Cruz Mountains Chris was struck by a car and killed. Our only solace is that at the time of his death he was the happiest and most confident he'd ever been, and was looking forward to the future with hope and excitement. He will leave an unfillable void in the hearts of all whose lives he touched. A celebration of his life will be held this Sunday at 6 PM at the Coyote Point Museum in San Mateo. Please begin arriving at 5:30 PM, as parking may be difficult. All who loved him are invited. Gifts in memory of Christopher Johnson to the Coyote Point Museum, 1651 Coyote Point Dr., San Mateo, CA 94401; or Audubon Society (www.audubonsociety.org) will be greatly appreciated and very appropriate, given his life's passion.

To the Johnsons,

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. It was a pleasure to have known him and to have grown up with him. It was a lot of fun being able to bring our computers over and play games till the break of down. Not very many families would let us do that! He will be missed.

Dear Johnson Family

I am deeply saddened by the loss of such a brilliant, wonderful young man. He helped out at our company last summer and was a highly intelligent, humble, good-natured person. I am still in shock that this has occurred. My condolences to your family.

Dr. and Mrs Jonnson,
We were so saddened to hear about someone who was a good friend to our son and daughter in law. rachel and dan always spoke very highly of chris. He seemed to be a dynamic and wonderful young man and if we are to believe in a life thereafer, we are assured that he will be one the leaders of the pack. our hearts go out to you and your family. losing a child is something we can not imagine. but we firmly believe in a life hereafter and know that Chris will live on in our memories.

Dear Dr. and Mrs. Johnson,

I have never had the opportunity to meet you or your family in person, but was fortunate to know of you as "family" through my dearest long-time friend Carmen, her husband Bob and their two sons.

I learned of your tragic loss on a Tuesday and can only hope that Christopher's short time with those he loved and cared for will be forever remembered with how deeply he touched them with his wonderful outgoing spirit, friendship and love for nature.
It will be a wonderful celebration of his life at Coyote Point, and I am sorry that I will not be in attendance.

Sincerely,

Rachel & Daniel Heck

Dear Dr. Johnson & Family,

Danny and I had the pleasure of working with Chris at Habitat for Humanity as fellow Americorps members 2004-2005. We will always remember his bright smile. His passion to find a solution on the job site often sparked laughter because he was a very creative inventor. Please accept our deepest condolences. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, I haven't seen much of you or family in recent years, but I always remember fondly the days I used to babysit for Christopher. My mom called me the other day to tell me about Chris (who will always be "Christopher" to me). I can't say I really knew him past the age of 4 or 5? I think we had a good time during those years though. It is clear that he turned out to be a wonderful young man and you must be incredibly proud of all he accomplished. I'm glad I shared a little of that time with him and my heart goes out to you. My prayers are with you always. Love, Erika Schmidt

Dear Brian and Joan,
When I heard about CJ's death it was if one of my own sons had died. He was one of our boys. He was brillant. None of us can comprehend what your family is going through at this very dark time in your lives. Please know that your friends and community are here for you in every way possible.
Respectfully,
Cindy H.Duncan and Dr. Keith Duncan

From one parent to another who lost a child, I feel your pain and sadness. My daughter and your Christopher both attended Crystal Springs and Berekeley, although years apart in age and time, the loss is the same. May God Bless you at this time of grief and maybe he fly with the angels.

I just wanted to say that, though I did not know Christopher, it sounds like he was a remarkable young man with a very kind heart. The Audubon
Society is a great organization and I was moved by what you wrote about him. I send my condolences.
