Craig Allan Severance
With profound sadness, we announce that Craig Allan Severance, age 25, passed away on August 5, 2016. Craig was born in San Francisco on April 25, 1991. Craig attended Cathedral School for Boys, Tamalpais High School and the Academy of Art.
Craig, or Craigy to us, was many things to many people but his two constant qualities were his humor and his empathy. Craig had an adorable and contagious smile and the ability to make anyone laugh with his quick wit. Craig was one of those people who knew a lot about many subjects. He was a voracious reader and up to date on current events. As a young child, he slept with copies of Time magazine on his bedside table. Craig had the biggest heart, was the most loyal person, put others ahead of himself and was always in your corner. From a young age, Craig exhibited empathy, not only for those less fortunate, but he showed extreme compassion toward his friends and family. A recent example of Craig's empathetic nature was his plan to travel abroad to perform community service for those in need.
Not all things came easily to Craig but he was filled with hope and optimism. He was a fighter. The only thing that Craig may have loved as much as his friends and family was the San Francisco Bay Area. He was proud to be a San Francisco native. This was evidenced by his love for Bay Area sports teams, appreciation for undiscovered local music, and interest in street art. The view of his beloved city was captured best while out on the Bay with his father.
Craig touched many people during his young life which is a measurement of his outgoing, generous and sensitive personality. His absence will leave a hole in all of our hearts. Craig will be loved and missed every day by his family. He is survived by his father, Craig Adam Severance of Sausalito, his mother and step-father, Nancy and Bill Hammonds of San Francisco, his siblings Jennifer Severance, Casey and John McDevitt, Natalie and Ry Sanderson and Will Hammonds, his grandmother, Chotsie Blank, his niece Eloise McDevitt and close family friend, Gloria Perez.
There will be a private family memorial service.
