Dan Corbett ("Danny" to his family and close friends) passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, of natural causes at his home in San Francisco on July 17th. Dan was a native of Oakland and was raised in East Oakland and San Leandro, having attended St. Benedict's School in Oakland, he graduated from Assumption School in San Leandro in 1973, Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland in 1977 and went on to attend San Francisco State University. He has lived in San Francisco since 1981. One of seven children born to William D. Corbett and Eveleen Rose Corbett. He is survived by his mother, Eveleen, siblings Edward, Bill (Joanna), Ellen, Kevin, Mary (Craig) and Tim (Grace), nieces and nephews Patrick Corbett, Ryan Boehme, Katie Corbett, Megan Corbett, Fiona Corbett and Sofia Corbett. He was preceded in death by his father, William and his sister-in-law, Michelle Kenealey Corbett. Danny was well known for his welcoming and warm manner, always greeting new and old friends with his affectionate and easy smile. An avid student of current events, he easily held his own in an always intelligent and respectful discussion or debate. He found his passion several years ago when he landed a job with Pets Unlimited in San Francisco, a job he loved, where he was able to take an active role in overseeing the care of stray pets and ensuring that they found good homes, even adopting an older Chihuahua named "Trusty," in order to save his life. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, July 27th at 10:30am at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4850 Clarewood Drive, Oakland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Dan's honor, to Pets Unlimited, 2343 Fillmore St., San Francisco, CA. 94115: petsunlimited.org.

The news is so shocking and sad. Life is not fair. And yet we had the joy of spending time with Dan Corbett. Not enough though. What an awesome guy.

Dan was a smart, loving, funny and caring person. Have had the pleasure and luck to have worked with him over the last eight years. His sarcasm and witty take on life will be soooooo missed. I already miss saying hello to him every morning we worked together. We have lost a good man with only great intentions.

I'll always remember how great you were with the animals at Pets Unlimited. And how you found out at the last minute that you could get off work to come to my wedding and came in your shorts just to make sure you wouldn't miss it!

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Daniel. "The DC" as he was known in certain circles was a Karaoke singer, a photographer, a fierce advocate for all animals, a Democrat, Trusty's best friend, and my pal. He will be sorely missed.
