David Harry Douma, born in French Camp, CA and raised in Ripon, near Modesto, passed away on April 23, 2016 in San Francisco, CA after a 6 month battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.A professional organist of talent and imagination he was also proficient on the piano and harpsichord. He had over 40 years of professional church music experience including College Avenue Congregational Church in Modesto, St. Francis Episcopal Church in Turlock, the Episcopal Church of St. Annes in Stockton, and St. Giles Episcopal Church at St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA.
For over a decade David was organist for the Ripon Oratorio Society's annual performance of Handel's "Messiah."
He is survived by his husband of almost 8 years, Claude Wynne, whom he married on November 2, 2008 (two days before the passage of Prop 8) and whom he met in 2001. He is also survived by his sister Joan Slack and family in Michigan, and dog Sampson.
A memorial service in David's honor will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 2:00pm at College Avenue Congregational Church in Modesto, 1341 College Ave., Modesto, CA 95350 and a reception will follow.

David was a glorious organist and a kind soul. I watched him from the pew week after week from a very young age and drew much inspiration from him as a budding keyboardist. I remember him fondly as one of my earliest musical influences, and am grateful for his talents and encouragement along the way.

I first meet David in 1989. I am just now learning of his passing, we lost touch with each other. I think of him often, he is missed.

I went to school at Ripon Christian school and to the same church growing up in the Ripon area. I will remember David fondly playing the piano and the organ at school and church. I didn't know of his passing until 6/9/16 but would like to have honored his memory by attending his Memorial service.
