David Jeremiah Hurley Jr., loving husband for sixty years, brother, father and grandfather, died peacefully in Palo Alto where he was living with Helena, his wife. Beloved father to five sons; Gregory, Martyn, Stephen, Peter, and Mark, and a daughter, Julia, who preceded him in death. Grandfather of two girls, Maddy and Darcy whom he loved very much.A brilliant, innovative architect, engineer, and photographer, David was an active member of The American Institute of Architects for many years. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 20, 1930. A graduate of Tufts College and MIT, David's architectural practice encompassed both commercial and residential design work in New York, the Bay Area, and throughout California. His inspiration came from the works of Brunelleschi, as well as the Modernist masters like Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, and Mies van der Rohe. He is remembered professionally as an architect with a clean modern aesthetic whose homes in Hillsborough and the Napa Valley have been recognized nationally.
A lifelong Catholic, David will be greatly missed by fellow parishioners at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Palo Alto where a memorial service will be held for him on Monday, July 9th at 2pm.
