David Munsey Obituary

David V. Munsey
April 14, 1941 - March 12, 2020
US Army veteran David Varzell Munsey Jr. passed to the ancestors on March 12, 2020 in San Francisco, CA., probably a victim of the coronavirus 19 pandemic. He was born on April 14, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to David and Beatrice Munsey. He was the only son and seventh of eight children born to his family. He is survived by his two sons, Robert and Jonathan, two sisters Sylvia Powell Major and Clementine Hassard. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Fredonia, Delores, Dorothy, Cecelia, and Irmagean and Caroline, the mother of his two sons. They lived in Altgeld Gardens Homes, a segregated housing project which had been built for the returning Black WWII, G.I.'s. David attended Hyde Park High School until he joined the US Army in 1958. He served honorably, earned his parachutist badge and last served in Co. D 2nd ARB 51st Inf. 4th AD in Ulm, Germany. Upon his discharge in 1961, he entered a career in private security services, primarily with the Brinks and Pinkerton Agencies. He retired in the early 90's. David was known for musical and dancing abilities. Once R &B star James Brown stopped his own performance at the Regal Theatre in Chicago in order to focus on David dancing in the aisle. He was also very knowledgeable about films, leaving behind a collection of almost 3,000 movies which have been donated to the San Francisco Library. David will be buried with full military honors on June 30, 2022 at 3P in California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery 2900 Parker Flats Road, Seaside, CA 93955. David was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. See you on the stoop, Bro'.
