David Roos Obituary

David Roos
October 16, 1957 - July 6, 2022
David Carl Roos, 64, died peacefully in his Chicago, IL home on July 6, 2022. He had been living with diabetes and kidney disease for many years, and was on a kidney and pancreas transplant list.
David was born on October 16, 1957 and was raised on a farm in Holly Michigan, where he developed a deep love for animals. After graduating from Holly High School in 1974 he worked as a horse trainer while studying theatre and dramatic arts at the University of Michigan.
After attending U of M, he moved to New York City, where he initially acted in many musical productions. Soon, he became drawn to ballet, and danced for the American Ballet Theatre for several years.
In 1988, he moved to Los Angeles, CA and opened his own Theatre Arts Management company. In this role, he worked with many music groups, including the Manhattan Transfer. He also worked with the Catholic Charities and Bill Graham Presents to promote fund-raising concerts and awareness for Bay Area Charities, including the emerging HIV / AIDS crisis.
After several years, he decided to return to his love of working with animals, partly based on his passion for horse training. He soon enrolled in the San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers, run by Jean Donaldson, one of the foremost trainers in the industry. He was one of her top students, and afterwards helped produce a DVD for one of her books, which is still in production today and is studied by aspiring trainers throughout the country. He also earned many other training certificates.
In 1999, David opened Perfect Paws Dog Daycare and Training in San Francisco. Perfect Paws won awards as the "Best Dog Training and Doggy Daycare" by San Francisco Magazine. He ran this business for 18 years, successfully training thousands of dogs.
In 2017, he closed his business, partly due to health issues. After a stop in Palm Springs, he eventually moved to Chicago in order to become the head trainer at Tucker Pup's Pet Resort. At Tucker Pup's, he built the largest and most comprehensive dog training business in Chicago. He also created, trained, and managed a large team of trainers.
David's humor and quick wit, while irreverent at times, was also disarming and he had a way of putting people at ease. David's smile and charm always lit up the room.
He is survived by his parents, Carl and Shirley Roos of Holly, Michigan, his brother Raymond (Renee), his two sisters Barbara Roos and Beverly (Pat) Vondra, a nephew, many nieces, great nieces and great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. David also leaves many friends across this country and a dear friend of 40 years in England.
The family will have a memorial mass on July 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Holly Michigan.
Tucker Pup's is hosting a Celebration of Life on August 27, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Emily Hotel, 311 N. Morgan St., in Chicago, IL. Please RSVP at www.tuckerpups.com/rsvp

I was stunned and saddened to learn of David´s passing. As a fellow grad of The Academy, David was a friend and colleague. He was a wonderful and compassionate trainer who shared his insight and knowledge. He was the trainer to San Francisco´s celebs and high society, while at the same time teaching group classes at Perfect Paws. I was just thinking of David, reflecting on when he introduced me to beloved clients at my small dog social years ago. I still care for this little dog, who will be 11 years old in a few weeks. Not only did David have a huge heart, but he also had quite a bit of sass. Hard to miss that twinkle of "naughty" in those blue eyes. What a guy! My heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends. David´s brilliance will always blaze in our hearts and heaven above.

I´m so saddened by this news! I had the pleasure of meeting David in 1992 from his friend and client Toni Basil. David was instrumental in my getting and staying sober, and I am forever grateful! My condolences to his family and other friends!
Sincerely Robert Ramos
