David Vaughn Obituary

David A. Vaughn

76, lost his hard fought battle against melanoma cancer Sunday morning, December 7th. He died in his Hillsborough home with his wife, Linda, by his side. He leaves behind his daughter, Heather Marsh, her husband Rick and their 3 children, Owen, Mason and Madeline, and his son Bradley Vaughn, his wife Lindsay and their son, Will.
Born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, Dave was the oldest of 5 children. He spent his youth in Fort Bragg, Ca where his father was the mayor for more than 20 years. He was a strong student, a class officer and quarterback of the winning football team. In 1956 he entered Stanford University and graduated with a BA in economics. Upon graduation he joined the Navy as a supply officer, lieutenant junior grade. He spent the next 3 years in Brooklyn. He started a career of 16 years as an IBM salesman out of the San Francisco and Geneva, Switzerland offices. His customers were financial institutions where he sold the first ATM machines. In 1979 he started his own company, North Bay Development (NBD), and continued as President until his death. NBD syndicates real estate in the Bay Area and he was involved in more than 40 transactions.
Dave continued his love of Stanford after graduation and had season tickets to its football games from the 1960's to the present, as well as taking a number of continuing education courses.
He was an avid skier, skiing all over the US and Europe. Golf was also a passion he pursued with Linda. But travel was his main focus in the last 15 years, choosing less developed countries and "off the beaten path" places to visit. It gave him great joy to take his family to Africa for his 70th birthday.
He was a 20 + year member of the Burlingame Rotary, the Peninsula Round Table, and the Hillsborough Racquet Club.
A tribute to Dave will be celebrated in January at the Hillsborough Racquet Club, where he will be remembered as a gentleman and a kind and thoughtful person.

Dave was a true gentleman and great friend of Rotary and its causes. I am sad we did not have more time with him. We really enjoyed knowing him and our best wishes to his family.
