David Wood

David Remley Wood

A man who loved to travel took his last trip on February 14, 2014 as he flew to Livingston, Montana to spend his final days on the banks of the Yellowstone River with his family. 

During those three weeks  two winter storms covered the ground with snow, eagles flew by each day and , of course, the wind blew. 

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dave moved to Short Hills, New Jersey when he was 15.  A 1951 graduate of Millburn High School, Dave attended Bowdoin College in New Brunswick, Maine where he was also a member of the DKE fraternity.  After two years at Bowdoin, Dave enlisted in the U. S. Air Force shortly before the end of the Korean War.  Dave became a commissioned officer and ended his 4 years, 10 months (but who was counting?) with a tour of duty at Mather Field in Sacramento, California. 

The luck of having been moved to California, courtesy of Uncle Sam, proved to be powerful for Dave.  In 1956 he married Gail Wolfsohn of San Francisco.  After graduating from University of California, Berkeley in 1960, Dave earned an MBA from Stanford University in 1962. 

Dave was involved in many aspects of the finance and investment business.  The first "associate" of Callan & Associates, Dave was a trailblazer in the pension consulting business.  In 1981 he began his final career as a placement agent for private equity firms with clients such as KKR, Hellman Friedman, and The Blackstone Group.

Gail and Dave had a daughter , Dayna Deaton, married to Jeff, and a son,  Peter Wood, both of whom live in the Bay Area.  In 1992 Dave married Sherri Lewis, who joined him as a partner at Wood Consulting. 

Dave was proud of being part of the USTA National Super Senior Doubles Championship Team in 2003.  He was an avid fly fisherman, golfer, and traveler.  Just this summer he counted up the countries he had visited and was pleased to learn he had joined the Traveler's Century Club with 113 countries.

In addition to his family, Dave shared his love of life and travel with two granddaughters, Taylor Deaton and Avery Deaton of Los Altos, and Sherri's Goddaughters, Emily Kay and Kaitlin Kay of Boise, Idaho.
