Dayle Parkes Obituary

Dayle Parkes, 93, of Santa Cruz, passed away on October 8, 2025. Dayle was born and raised in Florida. After graduating from high school, Dayle joined the military and served in the Korean War. He then used the G.I. Bill to attend the University of Florida. While earning his bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, he also married his wife and started his family, welcoming his first two children.
In 1960, Dayle moved with his wife and young children to California, where their family continued to grow with the birth of two more children. He worked at several companies in the Bay Area, including Fairchild, Lenkurt, and Lockheed. He was part of the Lockheed team that worked on the Hubble Space Telescope. While working, Dayle studied hard and earned a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.
After he retired, Dayle moved to the Santa Cruz area with his beloved partner, Patricia Jackson. Together they enjoyed traveling, music, and membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Dayle and Pat enjoyed participating in Bay to Breakers and Wharf to Wharf. For many years, they hosted a wonderful brunch at their home for family and friends after the Wharf to Wharf walk/run.
Dayle continued with his education in Santa Cruz and earned an A.A. degree in music at Cabrillo College. He learned to play the piano and guitar, and enjoyed singing in a local choir. Music provided his family with much joy at get-togethers, with everyone singing folk songs, Christmas carols, show tunes, or playing bells in the family bell choir.
Dayle is survived by his four children, Chris, Debbie, Steven, and Cheryl, who all reside in the Bay Area, six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Seascape Resort, One Seascape Resort Drive, in Aptos. Friends are invited to drop by anytime from 1:00 - 4:00 to celebrate Dayle's life and share memories.
