DON KIRK Obituary

Don Kirk 2/22/1914 - 5/23/2012 Donald Washington Kirk, age 98, died peacefully at his home in Redwood City. A former editor at the San Francisco Chronicle and a WWII veteran, Don loved life and lived it well - he was an avid fisherman, dancer, chess player, life master in bridge and a nationally ranked tennis player. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ella (Burman), and their four children: Judy (Don) Kropp of Oakdale, John (Judy) Kirk of Redwood City, Bonnie Kirk (Bill Clausen) of Pacific Grove and Jim (Janet) of Santa Rosa. He was loved by nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Don spent the last few weeks of his life happily visiting and reminiscing with friends and family, and he will be missed. There will be a celebration of his life on June 29, 11:30 AM, Highlands Community Club, 1665 Fernside, Redwood City. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to 'Beth/Joanna: Friends Program', NAMI Stanislaus, PO 4120, Modesto, CA 95352.

Every time I see a warm smile, hear something witty expressed in a modest tone, witness someone showing his grandkids how to fish, spot a clever tennis shot made at the last moment, drive near El Camino Hospital on Grant Road and see cross street bearing your name-- Don Kirk --- you'll be warmly remembered and sorely missed. So very much, Don.

RIP Don. Will always enjoy the memories of the bridge games at your house with Ella and the tennis games at Red Morton. May my life be as full as yours has been.
