Douglas Magee Obituary

Douglas T. Magee Aug. 14, 1921 - Dec. 20, 2009 Resident of Danville, CA and native of Manitoba, Canada passed away in Danville December 20, 2009 at age 88. Reared during the Great Depression in his native Manitoba, he came of age at the onset of WWII. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served in the European Theatre with distinction. As a bomber pilot who rose to the rank of Flight Lieutenant, he flew a total of 29 sorties, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war he attended college and completed undergraduate coursework at McGill University in Canada. He received a Masters Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University in 1951 and began his career with Chevron Corporation that same year. His industry and dedication to Chevron spanned 35 years and culminated with his appointment as Vice-President of Exploration of the Northern Region, USA, the position from which he retired in 1986. Douglas was married in 1951 to his wife Babs, who preceded him in death in 2002. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, their spouses, a grandchild, and a great grandchild. He will be remembered as a man of utmost fortitude, integrity, and honor.

Doug Magee was my client for 35 years. He was a war hero with the RCAF. While I was sleeping in an air raid shelter, Doug was based just 25 miles away, flying bombers over the North Sea. He was the most pleasant person to deal with, I always enjoyed our meetings and admired his superb integrity. I bought his car in 2010 and treasure driving it today. We shared a few things in common, I lived in Canada for 6 years, my English wife taught at McGill, I played rugby against McGill I would like to have known him better. After he died, I became trustee of his estate and got to know his kids. He was a great parent.
