Douglass Walsh Obituary
Douglass Edward Walsh
August 8, 1932 - February 14, 2022
Douglass Edward Walsh, Jr passed away suddenly, February 14, 2022 at his home in Menlo Park, CA. Doug was born in San Francisco on August 8th, 1932 to the late Douglass and Sybil Walsh. He attended Star of the Sea Grammar School and graduated in 1950 from St. Ignatius High School. He earned his BS from USF in 1954. While serving in the army, Doug was stationed in Washington, DC in Army Intelligence for 2 years, and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Upon returning to San Francisco, he met Marian Murphy whom he married in 1958. In 1959, Doug became a Certified Public Accountant and worked in that profession until the day he died. He was a partner in national and international firms and opened his own firm in Redwood City 45 years ago. He cared greatly for each and every one of his clients, most of whom have been clients for decades. Doug loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends, and we were all the beneficiaries of his unmatched wit, sense of humor, and his constant good nature. Spending time with Doug guaranteed laughter and fun. He was a graceful swimmer and an accomplished cannonballer, especially if his grandchildren were in the pool! Summers with his family at Lake Tahoe and traveling the world with family and friends were among his fondest memories. Playing tennis with the "Z's" at the Circus Club and later his weekly bridge games at the club were two of his favorite activities, for the camaraderie as much as for the game itself. Devoted to his Catholic faith, Doug was a lector at St. Charles Church and St. Raymond Church and served on the Board of Trustees at St. Patrick's Seminary. He was currently serving on the finance committee at the Seminary. Doug is survived by his loving wife Marian, and his three children, Debbie O'Neal (Steve), Mimi Enea, Doug Walsh III (Eva) and Vesty Enea, his former son in law. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Suzanne who died of cancer in 2005. He is also survived by his brother John Walsh (Kris), his sister-in-law Cathie Goodman (David) three nieces, Heather Newsom, Cate Newsom and Dena Darroch and one nephew Ryan Walsh. Doug adored his 11 grandchildren; Alexander Enea, Patrick Enea, Teddy Enea, Kevin Enea, Steven Walsh, Alexandra Carey (Kyle), John Walsh, Joseph Walsh, Annie O'Neal, Jacob O'Neal and Grace O'Neal and 2 great grandchildren, Noah Carey and Rosie Carey whose birth on the 17th of February he was eagerly anticipating.
Above all, Doug was the soul of kindness and always a gentleman. He will be greatly missed.
A funeral mass will be held at 3 o'clock, March 4th at The Church of the Nativity, Menlo Park. If you wish to honor Doug with a donation in his name please consider: Oak Grove Christian Ministries Veterans Fund P.O. Box 105 Menlo Park, CA 94026
