Edward Chu passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, at CPMC in San Francisco. He was born on September 17, 1929, in San Francisco, Calif., to Chung Tsun Chu and Yee Mon Gee. He was the fourth of six children. He attended UC Berkeley and graduated with a BA in math in 1951, and a Teaching Certificate in 1952. He received a MA in math from the University of Illinois in 1962.
Edward was drafted into the Army in 1952, and served in Arlington, Va., Japan and Korea, until his separation in 1954. He was honorably discharge in 1960, after completing his reserve obligations. He taught math at San Mateo High School from 1954 to 1981. He retired in 1981 to care for his dad.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Lincoln, Wellington, Annie and Rose. He is survived by his brother, John; and Lincoln's wife, Bethia Fay; and his beloved extended family of nephews and nieces, and their families. A viewing service is planned for Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Colma.

As his student in 1965 and 1966 I saw a professional devoted to teaching us numbers and how they worked, in his hand on the chalkboard and verbally explaining. There was a beauty to his work and he appeared to be giving it his all to bring us along. His family can be proud of him.
