Edward Stokes Obituary

Edward C. Stokes
November 25, 1933 - April 2, 2021
Ed passed away April 2nd, after suffering a fall at home. Edward was born in San Francisco on November 25, 1933 to Mark and Norma Stokes. He is survived by Josephine, his devoted wife of 62 years. He is cherished by his children Denise Selby (Arturo Alcantar), Deanna (Jay Kelly), Edward and Michael. He is also survived by grandsons Ryan Selby, Jared Kelly, Nicholas, Tyler, Blake and great grandson Luke Selby. Also survived by siblings John, Norma Berg (Tim), Kathleen Lewin-dec (Eugene-dec), Colleen Seck (Don), Mark (Diane) and many nieces and nephews.
Ed experienced a typical South of Market childhood, which included playing baseball, basketball, and other activities at the Canon Kip Community Center. He attended Franklin Grammar School, Everett Junior High School and went on to graduate from Mission High School.
Not long after high school, Ed was drafted into the army. His assignment was Heavy Vehicle Driver for the 287th QM Co (REFRG) APO 971 during the Korean War. He was a proud Veteran that continued to participate in monthly VA meetings. After the army, Ed would marry his wife Josephine and begin their life together in Daly City.
For 65 years, Ed was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 6. Most of his electrical career was at Lera Electric as a Superintendent for 30 years. He skillfully managed to take care of his Union Brothers, all while remaining dedicated to his boss and friend, Aldo Lera. During retirement, he enjoyed participating in the IBEW Local 6 Senior Sixties Club.
Ed enjoyed his vacations with his family and friends at Lake Berryessa. Later in retirement, he reveled the country life in Murphys, CA. Though his airplane travels were few, his wife and friends managed to get him to the Old Sod (Ireland) and other various trips.
His love and compassion for others was unwavering. Ed valued the life-long friendships he made until the day he passed. This sweet, quiet man will be greatly missed by his family and friends for his sense of humor and witty personality.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
Services will be held at St. Robert's Church at 1380 Crystal Springs Road San Bruno, CA on Thursday, April 8th at 10:30 am.

Ed was one of a kind! Loved him from the first day I met him over 40 years ago.

My thoughts of Ed will always be of a kind shy person, growing up a block away from each other,, attending the same schools from Grammar to High School. Knowing his wife Josie, from Jr. High School and privileged to watch their family grow. Will always remember so much fun sharing each summer at Lake Berryessa. Sonny and Al will be with you to laugh some more.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Ed. My father was a friend. There was a group of them who would meet for lunch at the Inn Justice. Condolences from the Anderson family.
