Elan was a native San Franciscan, the oldest son of James Hahn and Kathryn Hahn. He lived his entire life in the City with the exception of the four years he served as a medic in the U.S. Army. When he was honorably discharged, he got his contractor's license and began an almost thirty-five year career, always seeking perfection, but ready to point out that he didn't quite reach it. He was a craftsman, innovative and always ready with thoughtful advice. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Mr. Hahn was a soft-spoken, loyal, humble and caring human-being. To say that we met in the least favorable of circumstances would be an understatement. I never would have imagined we would become as great of friends as we did, but it was a blessing to have him in my life. I enjoyed our meetings and deep discussions about life, finance, And the economy. He gave me a chance early in my career as a financial planner and the support continued even after I had moved on from the field. I would look forward to his calls each month, checking in on how I was doing. Never once was it about him. If karma is the currency for the afterlife, Mr. Hahn is set. I'm still in shock and am still processing him not being here but he will always be in my heart and mind.
